Now that it finally feels like weather in which you can have a good street festival, it is time to announce the line-up for the 45th annual Andersonville Midsommarfest on June 12 & 13.  We are incredibly excited about the bands we have performing, and with the addition of an acoustic stage at the new Balmoral Beer Garden and for the first time evening entertainment at the stage at Summerdale & Clark, we will have 5 stages this year!  Plus the headliner acts on the North, Center and Summerdale stages will be starting at 7:00 pm on both nights,  so that means an extra hour of Maggie Speaks, Funkadesi, Mike & Joe and ‘fest favorite 16 Candles!

  1. Dan Michel says:

Maggie Speaks and 16 Candles going opposite each other. It’s good they are both back but how am I going to choose? Great lineup

  2. Jason Cox says:

I know Dan – it can be hard to choose. There is an extra hour so hopefully you can get at least a good hour and fifteen of each. And walk by Wedding Banned on the way, who are also really fun!

  3. Steven pryor says:

Wow! Your team did fantastic! Did the fest expand one block? Looking forward to mary’s beer garden stage! Let’s all say a little weather prayer for an awesome weekend. Thanks again to the Chamber for all their hard work.

  4. Jason Cox says:

Thanks Steven! We have run up to Catalpa the past couple of years. It spreads out the vendors a little more and gives the venue a little more breathing room.

  5. Pinay 11 says:

Get it right!! – It is Roots Rock Society – not Roots Rock playing June 12 Saturday @ Summerdale stage 7pm.
I am a big fan of theirs!!!!!!

  6. Jason Cox says:

Thanks for the catch – I copied that from an old list. I am actually a huge fan of theirs too back from my days with the Park District! It is correct on the poster – I promise!!!

  7. Erica Lane says:

Nice job, as always, on the line-ups! Jason, you never fail me…Funkadesi, YAY!!!!

  8. Webb says:

I agree, nice line up. Also, if anyone is interested, there is an app out there that provides the band line ups, times, locations, etc…. for most of the Festivals this summer in Chicago. Its called Festival Finder – Chicago. Just wanted to pass it along. Looking forward to the fest.

  9. Freakinator says:

Still fun, but used to be different. Why so many cover bands and with such repetition? Used to be local Andersonville sponsors had more control over musical acts and have a more varied lineup. Not saying these bands are bad but they play everywhere in the city and are farmed out to all major street fairs from a central City of Chicago office. Chicago was/is a city of neighborhoods and each one should be allowed more freedom to celebrate its local flavor.

  10. Jason Cox says:

Here is an article that I think did a really good job of explaining what the realities of putting on a festival like Midsommarfest are for an organization like ours: http://chicago.timeout.com/articles/features/84032/why-are-summer-festivals-the-same

That being said, I think that Midsommarfest has a good share of original, great, fun non-cover bands like Funkadesi, Roots Rock Society, The Joans, The Dirty Rooks, Daphne Willis, Canasta and Al Rose who are not at every festival. Plus the new acoustic stage at the Balmoral Beer Garden will feature lots of local talent and be something completely new and fresh for the festival.

  11. shawna barker says:

Nice to see Funkadesi and Roots Rock Society – but why schedule them so they compete with each other?????

  12. Jason Cox says:

I totally agree Shawna! I tried to get them switched around because I had the same concern, but the way the bands various schedule’s worked out we weren’t able to switch them. It is a bummer because they are two of my favorites.

  13. A-Ville Resident says:

I just wanted to say thanks for always putting on such a great event. I live in the area and every year I look forward to the festival. I don’t know if what you do is volunteer or paid but either way, your group always does an amazing job and as a local resident, I really appreciate it. I can’t wait to check out the bands and vendors this weekend! (though like other posters said, it’s always so hard to choose which bands to listen to when there are so many good ones a the same time slots!)

  14. lisa ericson says:

    Sweet, Canasta AND Funkadesi!!

    Nice work!

  15. LK says:

Anyone know if (well behaved) dogs are allowed at Midsommarfest?

  16. Yes! Well-behaved dogs are welcome at Midsommarfest as long as they are on leashes.

  17. Kelly says:

Strange to see so few good jazz or blues acts in a Chicago streetfest. How about more salsa, brazilian or motown bands for the dancing enthusiasts. Perhaps you could have fewer acts that are of higher quality. For instance The Chicago Catz.

  18. Stephanie says:

Is there a plan-B if it starts to rain? Will the bands still play?

  19. Dave B says:

I just wanted to say that, despite the rain, I loved Midsommarfest this year. The music, especially the Prohibition Orchestra as well as Turn Left at Albuquerque, was terrific. The rain goddess apparently has very poor taste in music by her evident choice to open up the heavens. I thought the festival was very well organized and you did a really great job, Jason! Let’s hope future years are much drier and sunnier.

  20. Jason Cox says:

Thanks Dave! I was really looking forward to both The Joans and Daphne Willis (who both rock!) and of course it started to rain right after they started. The Joans didn’t get rained on quite as heavily and were able to stick it out, but I wish they would have had a better crowd. Will DEFINITELY have them both back…
