The Monday morning after a holiday weekend is always a bummer. So instead of turning your attention to those 500 unread emails in your inbox, hop online and check out the Andersonville Holiday Gift Guide!
For over 5 years The White Attic has been offering stylish repainted and refinished furniture in Andersonville. More recently owner Terry Ledford has used his impeccable taste to add a variety of home decor accessories such as lamps, vases, candles and other glassware to fit a variety of styles and budgets.
Our Favorite Thing for today is just one of those items. These Hourglasses come in a variety of sizes and colors and are great to group together with other household accents. And for a more practical use, each take about an hour for the sand to fully travel from one side to the other. Too long for playing Taboo, but great for timing a well-deserved reading break!
Other items featured from The White Attic are Voluspa Candles and a decorative Globe With Stand.
The White Attic, 5225 N. Clark. 773-907-9800. Monday & Wednesday-Saturday, 11:00 am – 6:00 pm. 12:00 noon-5:00 pm on Sunday. Closed Tuesday.
Did everyone survive Black Friday? Hopefully you avoided the stress of the mall and came to Andersonville. But if not there are still plenty of shopping days left before the holidays are here, and plenty of gift suggestions in the Andersonville Holiday Gift Guide.
Thanksgiving was only two days ago, and today Our Favorite Things turns our attention to a purveyor of all things yummy, City Olive. Karen and her staff can help you find the perfect gift from their selection of gourmet vinegars, mustards, jams and jellies, salts and spices and other specialty foods and accessories. And of course olive oils, like today’s favorite thing!
Rainise Lemon Olive Oil ($26.99) is not just pretty on the outside; it has a bright, superb flavor. Made with Taggiasca olives from western Liguria that are crushed and infused with lemon, it is perfect for salads, fish, shellfish, fruit and vegetables. And a perfect gift for that foodie on your list. Who knows, maybe you will even get a dinner out of it!
Other items featured from City Olive are City Olive Balsamic Vinegar and a Michael Aram Olive Branch Bowl.
City Olive, 5408 N. Clark. 773-878-5408. Holiday hours: Tuesday-Thursday & Saturday, 11:00 am – 7:00 pm, Friday 11:00 am-7:00 pm, Sunday & Monday, 11:00 am – 6:00 pm.

Welcome to the first edition of Our Favorite Things from the Andersonville Holiday Gift Guide! And since today is the busiest shopping day of the year, what better time to start?
Those in the know have already fallen in love with The Coffee Studio, the sleek and modern coffee shop located at the north end of Andersonville (and totally worth the walk!). Owners Lee and Miguel’s dedication to the art and science of brewing coffee ensure that no matter what you order, you will get a perfect cup every time. Plus with free Wi-Fi and yummy treats from Bleeding Heart Bakery and Bennison’s Bakery, The Coffee Studio is a great place to hang out.
We love “I am not a paper cup”, the reusable, dishwasher safe porcelain mug with silicone lid that is a great alternative to those all-too-common paper versions. At $19.95 this is a great gift for the coffee or tea lover on your list. I know I carry mine every day on my walk to work!
Other items featured from The Coffee Studio are some Christmas Morning Delights and tools to help you find out The Secret to Making Better Coffee.
The Coffee Studio, 5628 N. Clark. 773-271-7881. Hours: Everyday from 6:30 am – 9:00 pm.
Your Ride’s On Us! Getting to Chicago’s Andersonville neighborhood by car or CTA is free from Thanksgiving through New Year’s Day. To reward holiday shoppers who patronize the neighborhood, the “Your Ride’s On Us!” program will reimburse parking or CTA fees when customers spend at least $20 during their visit to Andersonville. The promotion will last from Thanksgiving until New Year’s Day. To receive their refunds, customers mail their parking receipt or print-out from the CTA’s Chicago Card Plus website, and the receipt from their purchase, to the Andersonville Chamber of Commerce.

Just in time for the rapidly approaching holidays, we bring you the 2009 Andersonville Holiday Gift Guide! This year’s guide features dozens of great gift ideas for everyone on your shopping list, and all available in many of your favorite Andersonville stores.
Each gift idea features a photograph, price range and description. You can search by price point, by individual store, or by type of gift (home accents, clothes & accessories, etc.). Still not sure what to get? You can find businesses offering gift certificates. Each listing also includes a description of the featured locally-owned business, as well as information as to whether their gifts are available online, in the store or by phone.
Each day beginning on Friday, November 27 through Christmas Eve we will highlight one item from each store as one of Our Favorite Things. So be sure to check back to get some more inspiration for your holiday shopping.
Of course it goes without saying that the gift guide features just a small fraction of the thousands of gifts available here in the neighborhood. So after a day or two spent in Andersonville this holiday season you won’t walk away empty handed.
