The gals from Grassroots Farm
Wow! The inaugural Andersonville Farmers Market opened at 4PM on June 24 full of greens, broccoli, asparagus, herbs, raspberries, strawberries, beets, fresh baked bread, and much, much more . . . but by not much after 5PM, the pickins were already getting slim! The massive crowds who came to support the market were no surprise to us, but to the farmers who weren’t familiar with Andersonville, it was quite a shock! One vendor noted, “I did at least the volume I do at Green City. Next week I’m going to bring three times as much product!”
All of which is to say that if you arrived later last Wednesday and didn’t find all you wanted to buy, please come back! The farmers will be bringing much more goods. And we have some fabulous new vendors who will be joining us in the coming weeks, including:
Bruncow Cheese (couldn’t make it last week because of mechanical difficulties) – locally produced Cheddar, Colby and Colby-Monterey Jack Combination, cold pack cheese & cheese spreads, Monterey Jack, Swiss
Paul Friday Farms – best known for their Flaming Fury Peaches
Triple A Farms (starting July 8)- tomatoes, potatoes, bell peppers, jalapeno peppers, other hot/mild peppers, cantaloupes, green beans, sweet onions, zucchini/squash, sweet corn, cucumbers, sweet potatoes, red peppers, acorn squash, butternut squash
Iron Creek – extensive list of veggies, greens, berries, melon

Greens and tomato plants
In addition to the greater volume brought by farmers, Mother Nature will be making more and more produce available as the season goes on. This year’s crops came in slowly because of the unseasonably cool weather we’ve had up until now. One of our favorite harbingers of summer in Andersonville is the blooming of the Catalpa trees during Midsommarfest weekend. This year, they were 2 weeks late. The farmers’ crops are on the same schedule!
The Andersonville Farmers Market produce will be locally-grown only. That means that each week what you’ll find at the market is what is in season in the Midwest. The produce will be fresh-picked, delicious and transported no more than a few hours to come to you. We hope you’ll join us in the coming bounty!
The Andersonville Farmers Market takes place each Wednesday from June 24 – September 9, from 4PM – 8PM. For more information about the Andersonville Farmers Market, including the complete list of vendors, entertainment, and demonstrations, go to our website: www.andersonville.org.
