eco-andersonville-logo-for-webSummer is the time to be out in the neighborhood! As the days get warmer and you get the “itch” to be on the street, remember to shop local and sustainable this summer.

In Andersonville, five businesses have been certified as eco-Andersonville sustainable businesses. This means that the business has adopted sustainable  practices that make a positive impact on People, Planet, and Prosperity.

How to keep cool this summer at eco-Andersonville Certified Sustainable businesses:

Try an iced coffee or new Italian ice at The Coffee Studio! The yummy Italian ice comes locally from Miko’s in Wicker Park. It is made with real fruit and is vegan-friendly. Served in compostable cups made from sugar cane byproducts and spoons made from plant starch, you cannot miss this eco-treat!

Celebrate the planet by toasting to a sustainable vodka now served at Hamburger Mary’s. 360 Vodka bills itself as the “world’s first Eco-luxury vodka.” Drink an Eco-tini at Mary’s and $1 of your drink will be donated to eco-Andersonville’s recycling program.

This summer, partner with Green Genes to help clean our beaches. Chicago Green Families cleans Hartigan Beach every Thursday at 10:00am and if you show up to help, you will receive a postcard allowing 15% off your next purchase at Green Genes. Plus $1 will be donated to the Nature Conservancy as a thank-you from Green Genes.

Make your home cool and efficient this summer with Joel Berman Architecture & Design. Joel Berman’s completely accredited LEED staff can make your home breezy and cool (and cool-looking!) while lowering your carbon footprint with energy saving improvements.
