As we wrap up our first week of Andersonville 20/20, after the jump is our list of what we’ve done with our 20 bucks (or a little bit more). Leave a comment to let us know what you did with your 20 bucks!
JESSICA
$2 – icecream cone at George’s Ice Cream and Sweets
$4 – Dolce de Parma sandwich at Piatto Pronto
$15 – book on women entreprenures from Women & Children First
JASON
My first serveral weeks of the 20/20 Challenge are going to be what I call “The Uncle Jason Project”, or “Spoiling Aidan & Allie”. My twin nephew and niece turn two years old on June 12 so I will be hitting up the child-centric stores in Andersonville to buy them presents for their birthday party, thankfully scheduled the weekend after Midsommarfest so that Uncle Jason can actually attend! My first stop was The Red Ballooon Co., where I purchased:
$9.50 – Clown fish bath toys (they love Finding Nemo, so I think these will be popular)
$12.00 – a giant Chicago floor puzzle (pictured above)
They also have a great section on their website where you can find all kinds of stuff for under $20, and they had quite a few choices in the store as well.
I will be hitting up another store this week so make sure to check back. And if you have found any great items for 2 year olds in Andersonville recently, please let me know in the comments.
ELLEN
I spent $14 on “The Prayer Room” by Shanthi Sekaran at Women and Children First last week (plus a discount because I’m a W & C member!). I’m loving this book — the story of an Indian woman and an British man who sort of accidentally end up marrying.
Also was thrilled to spend $3 on the return of Zanzibar Chocolate ice cream, at George’s. Thank you for bringing this back into my life! I’ve been in severe withdrawal.
Lunches at Taste of Heaven (hard to believe it’s still cold enough for veggie chili) and Kopi (panini de Melody Nelson and what’s known over there as “Ellen’s weird green drink”) rounded out another fabulous week in downtown Andersonville.
WHAT DID YOU DO WITH YOUR 20 BUCKS?

Spent $139 for haircut and color with Jennifer at Sine Qua Non. Highly recommend the salon and Jennifer!
$32 at Big Jones, topped off by Blue Moon ice cream at Georges!
Big Jones is so good! I love the $25 menu on weeknights, and their Tuesday night fried chicken is AMAZING! I will be writing about that at some point for sure.
$77 dollars at In Fine Spirits for delicious wine to complement the pizzas on the grill Sunday.
$86 dollars at LaTache on Monday for the Price Fixed (3 Courses!). Included a bottle of wine, dinner for two!
$50 at Calo on Tuesday for some catchup.
$15 for dinner ingredients at Edgewater Produce on Wednesday.
I went to Avelon Chripratic $40. Had drinks at In Fine Sprits $50. Had a haircut at Robert Jeffries….I over accomplished my goal…lol
Jason – the 3 Llama Llama books found at Women and Children First are GREAT gifts for 2 year olds. We read one, or all three, every night before bed. Llama Llama Red Pajama. Llama Llama Mad at Mama and Llama Llama Misses Mama.
All three will set you back more the $20 but the entire set it worth it!!!
Thanks Jill! Women & Children First is definitely one of the planned stops (with probably a little present for Uncle Jason thrown in there as well!).
I can’t help but love Edgewater produce!! Ran there the other night and snagged dinner for 2 for $22.
coffee studio, coffee studio, coffee studio and coffee studio – and a little plant at gethsemane.
$24 – dr pucker, blu burger, slice of coconut cake, coffe from kopi. kopi is the best.
$32 for two drinks and dinner at In Fine Spirits – definitely my favorite place for a drink in the entire city. And only a 10 minute walk from home! Also, $119 for personal training sessions at Cheetah; I need to work off all the flatbreads I eat at the bar!
Manicure/pedicure at 2X Nails – $48 – lovely.
Dinner with friends at Calo – $18 – wonderful as always
and two ice cream treats at George’s -$7 so glad you’ve opened!
Awesome kids stuff at Green Genes!
$30 for a bottle of North Shore gin at Andersonville Wine and Spirits.
$30 for brunch at M Henry.
$26 for a late lunch at Kopi.
More than I want to think about at Uptown Animal Hospital getting my doggie’s thyroid function checked.
This is going to be easier than I thought.
I’ve only been back in town 2 full days and I’ve spent my $20: (on food mostly!)
$15 at Charlie’s for a Goose Island Summertime and salmon sandwich
$3 at The Coffee Studio for my favorite drink: large earl grey with half steamed soy and honey
$3.25 for a cup of Espresso Oreo ice cream at George’s
$10 for pizza with friends at Ranalli’s, BYOB is great for a big group!
Being away from Andersonville really makes you miss all the great restaurants we have!
Had a great dinner (Total $61.39) and 1/2 price bottle of wine at Big Jones. The service was great and my sesame crusted chicken was delicious. It was my first time there, but I’ll definitely return soon.
