We are proud to present a new initiative of the Andersonville Chamber of Commerce, Andersonville 20/20!

Andersonville 20/20 is a grassroots community-wide initiative to help support the unique and independent businesses in Andersonville by challenging our neighbors to think about how they spend 20 bucks.

It’s pretty easy to spend 20 bucks. Most of us spend this much each week eating, drinking, shopping or just plain living without really thinking about it. Andersonville 20/20 is challenging us to think about it.

YOU can join the 20/20 Challenge by signing our online pledge to spend 20 bucks each week in Andersonville for the next 20 weeks. The more people who participate in our challenge, the more we invest to keep Andersonville a great place to eat, drink, shop and live.  The independent businesses that make our community so unique would really appreciate your support.

Tell your friends about Andersonville 20/20. You can double-triple-quadruple your impact by forwarding Andersonville 20/20 to your friends and encouraging them to join the Challenge!  We bet they love Andersonville as much as you do (if not, maybe some encouragement is in order…it’s not hard to find things to love about Andersonville).

You can also follow Andersonville 20/20 RIGHT HERE on the Smorgasblogg! We’ll be posting information about special events for 20/20 Challengers, great ideas for how to spend your 20 bucks, and updates on how we spent our 20 bucks each week.  You can comment and let us know what you’re spending your 20 bucks on, too!

Okay, I officially started my 20/20′ing today. I am buying presents for my niece and nephew’s upcoming birthday (more on that later) and bought a giant 24-piece floor puzzle with Chicago scenes ($12.99) and a really cute tub toy set ($9.50) with a large clownfish which holds 3 little clownfish toys (they love Finding Nemo, so the clownfish will be popular). Both of these are from The Red Balloon Company. I spent a little more than $20, but that is totally within the rules and will probably be a continued theme :)

I already spent my 20 on Sunday at the Landmark (actually 50+).

Piatto Pronto easily gets $20 a week from me, at the bare, bare minimum. It’s really the best store ever. We also ate at m. henry and Real Azteca this week. So much Andersonville love!

We spent $30 apiece on our first trip to Anita Pizzeria last weekend – it’s as great as we’ve heard.

Sadly, we’re about to drop over $150 at Andersonville Tech as two of our (five) PC’s died this week. They do great work at a great price there.

I spent $14 on “The Prayer Room” by Shanthi Sekaran at Women and Children First last week (plus a discount because I’m a W & C member!). I’m loving this book — the story of an Indian woman and an British man who sort of accidentally end up marrying.

Also was thrilled to spend $3 on the return of Zanzibar Chocolate ice cream, at George’s. Thank you for bringing this back into my life! I’ve been in severe withdrawal.

Lunches at Taste of Heaven (hard to believe it’s still cold enough for veggie chili) and Kopi (panini de Melody Nelson and what’s known over there as “Ellen’s weird green drink”) rounded out another fabulous week in downtown Andersonville.

Sorry to hear about your PCs, Hal!
